Waitlist Information
Oklahoma Waitlist
Developmental Disability Services (DDS), a division of the Department of Human services, is tasked with offering support to citizens of Oklahoma with developmental disabilities. These services, referred to as waivers, have a singular goal which is to improve people’s lives. Individuals who qualify, but have yet to receive services, are placed on a waitlist.
In 2022 the state legislature took historic action to eliminate a nearly 13-year wait by appropriating $32.5 million to end the waitlist. By June of that year DDS began working with individuals on the waitlist by placing them on chronologically based cohorts. These cohorts were created to help DDS and families, moving a predefined group of people off the waitlist each quarter until the waitlist is eliminated.
Each cohort can participate in events to assist them in preparing for their journey to receive a waiver. These meetings are held in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa every quarter with a purpose to prepare families for transition.

By 2024 the waitlist was reduced by nearly 11 years due to both providers and the state working together to increase services. Brighter Day is proud to continue to assist individuals and their families transition into supports.
